When it comes to Wacky Wednesday, I’ve frequently turned to electronic music. For one, I like it. Secondly, it always for the weirdness that just can’t be produced organically.
Today’s selection stems from one of my favorite producers - Simon Posford. He plays under a few psuedo-names. Sphongle’s the big one. He’s also part of Younger Brother and Hallucinogen. All come highly recommended.
As with hip-hop, electronic producers love to recycle shit. Ott, part of Posford’s “Twisted” label, remixed a bunch of Hallucinogen tracks with dub in mind. The title - “In Dub”. Pretty creative, huh? The album itself is a little spotty, imo, but there are a two or three tracks that a just plain nasty.
Gamma Goblins has is plenty dirty and a whole lot of weird. Ott’s intro has a bit of pink floyd mixed with an interesting sample of a scientist explaining, step by step, the cyclical tendencies of chaos. Quite the setup for the dark, dirty melody that follows. Add to that more than a handful of unsettling samples - echoed baby vocals, twisted organ lines, squeeky toys - and things definitely get wacky.
Enjoy!
